X-ray software as a safe diagnostic tool

X-rays: an efficient and safe diagnostic tool thanks to effective X-ray software

All it takes is one false step when you’re out running, and you find yourself on the way to hospital in so much pain that you can't bear to even think about running again. Of course, the first step once you reach hospital is an x-ray to see if you’ve fractured a bone. We owe the X-ray method to the physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who even received the Nobel Prize for the invention, as long ago as 1901. X-rays can effectively verify tentative medical diagnoses and guide subsequent treatment. What is extremely important however is that X-ray software exposure parameters are properly matched to the respective organ and tissue type.

Radiologic images are created due to differential absorption of X-rays according to body tissue density. If the continuity of the patient’s bone image is broken, then the nature of the injury is clear. Certain parameters can influence the image contrast and object recognition of the X-ray software. At the same time, of course, the radiation dose has a substantial impact on the digital X-ray image acquired. For safety reasons, the dose should always be kept as low as possible to avoid patient tissue damage.

EXAMION X-AQS X-ray software can be programmed to automatically apply the correct setting based on preset body region and organ lists. As a result, it is able to determine the precise radiation dose needed to acquire a diagnostically-optimal X-ray image in each case. Acquisition of an optimal X-ray image with the first take also obviously avoids the need to repeat the process, which avoids additional radiation exposure for patients. Thanks to the possibilities offered by X-rays, quick treatment for our sports accident patients is within reach.

The continuous development of the X-AQS software is an integral part of EXAMION’s product policy. We base our development on harmonised European standards and professional clinical expertise, including, for example, the guidelines of the German Medical Association on quality assurance in X-ray diagnostics. These standards and specifications are incorporated into the product development cycle from the start, guaranteeing that efficient, safe diagnostic tools become available for our users and their patients. The focus of EXAMION’s software and system development is the creation of products with outstanding diagnostic quality designed with maximum safety for users and patients in mind.
